10 Things Sports Card Collectors Enjoy

  1. Rookie Cards – A rookie card is a card featureing an athlete’s first appearance on a trading card. Rookie cards are typically most sought after by collectors rookie over any other card.
  2. Going to hobby shops – One of the things that collectors love to do is meet and talk with like-minded people. By doing so, they can share their passion and learn from the other collectors and store owners.
  3. Completing a set – Building a set takes a lot of time and money. When you find the last card to complete your set, especially if you spent a lot of time looking for it, it’s extremely satisfying.
  4. Getting a great price for a card – There’s nothing better than finding that one card that you were missing and at a great price! It may not happen often, but when it does, it’s well worth the wait.
  5. Getting Your Card autographed – An autograph adds value to a card. Having the opportunity to have your favorite player sign their card not only improves your collection, but increases the card’s price.
  6. Getting a good grade on your card – When you get your card graded, a professional inspects it for authenticity and ranks it on a 10-point scale. When you sell baseball cards, a higher grade will increase the value and price of the card.
  7. Find cards in unexpected places – Remember that one time you were going on a walk and decided to stop at a random store? And then you found that one card that you’ve always wanted? Sometimes finding cards in unexpected places is more exciting than searching for them.
  8. Error cards – Cards that have errors are usually more valuable than other cards. This is due to their scarcity.
  9. Studying statistics – When it comes to sports players, there’s a lot of statistics that you can study. For example, how many homeruns did a player have in a year? How many strike-outs?
  10. Guessing the value of a card – This is a fun game to play with yourself, or with others. When you see a card, try to guess the value based on the player, year, and condition.
