1933 Goudey Sport Kings
The 1933 Goudey Sport Kings issue is THE definitive multi-sport set ever issued. Employing a classic Goudey design (similar to the landmark 1933 Goudey Baseball Set), colorful art and a boffo checklist, this set still resonates with collectors almost a century later.
The 48-card set starts out with guns blazina’s the first six cards of the set feature Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Nat Holman, Red Grange, Ed Watcher and Jim Thorpe. Thorpe’s #6 represents his only football card appearance in the first half of the 20th century.
The player content in the remainder of the set is also stellar as all major (and many minor) sports are represented.
The major sport legends include Baseball; Cobb, Ruth & Carl Hubbell. Football; Grange, Thorpe & Knute Rockne. Basketball; Holman, Wachter, Joe Lopchick & Eddie Burke. Hockey; Eddie Shore, Howie Morenz, Ace Bailey & Ching Johnson. Boxing; Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Primo Carnera & Max Baer and Golf; Walter Hagen, Gene Saracen, & Bobby Jones.
In addition to the mainstream sports, some very quirky and very collectible cards are also present.
Surfer Duke Kahanamoku, Swimmer (and Tarzan) Johnny Weissmuller, soon-to-be war hero Jimmy Doolittle and female superstar Babe Didrickson also have rookie cards in the set.
