New Jersey is a great place to live, as well as visit. This state is famous for its beautiful beaches, intense politics, great food, and diverse culture. There’s another thing that New Jersey should be remembered for and that’s its baseball players. For that reason, we want to take a second to brag about some of the best baseball players of all time that have played in New Jersey. #1: Larry Doby
Larry Doby was the second African American player to break baseball’s color barrier; he was also the first in the American League. Not only did he play 13 seasons in the majors, but he was also elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998.
#2: Mike Trout
Mike Trout is a center fielder for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. Trout has an impressive resume, as he’s an eight-time MLB All-Star, three-time American League Most Valuable Player, and seven-time winner of the Silver Slugger Award. He is currently the biggest star in the major leagues.
#3: John Henry Lloyd
Nicknamed “El Cuchara”, Lloyd is considered the best shortstop in Negro League history. After his career as shortstop ended, he became a popular coach in a youth league. In 1949, Pop Lloyd Stadium was dedicated to him.
#4: Derek Jeter
Born in Pequannock, Derek Jeter made the list for his five World Series titles and 3,465 hits that place him as sixth all-time in baseball history. In 2015, he was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. In this year, he was admitted into another Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
#5: Yogi Berra
New York Yankee Yogi Berra is considered baseball’s greatest catcher. He won 10 World Series championships, more than any other player in baseball history. In addition, he was named American League MVP three times in his career.
