DiMaggio: The Famous “Yankee Clipper”

In our last article, 5 Reasons We Love Watching Baseball (link article), we discuss why baseball is America’s favorite sport. Not only is it interesting to watch, but it’s a whole community of people who are passionate about the game. On top of that, some of the athletes that step on the field have made a mark on history. Although there are many baseball players out there, some of them have truly made an impact on the sport. Among these players is Joseph Paul DiMaggio, also known as “The Yankee Clipper”.

DiMaggio was a baseball center fielder who played his entire 13-year Major League baseball career for the New York Yankees. Many baseball fans consider him one of the greatest baseball players in history. His crowning accomplishment was a 56-game hitting streak, a record that still stands today. In addition, he was also a three-time MVP Award Winner and an All-Star in each of his 13 seasons. He also won 10 American League pennants and nine World Series Championships.

DiMaggio retired after his 1951 season. He ended his career ranking fifth in career home runs and sixth in career slugging percentage. In 1955, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and was voted the sport’s greatest living player in a toll taken in 1969.
