Famous Errors and Variations Found in Baseball Cards

For those of you who sell baseball cards, you may be wondering what a fair price for your cards are. To determine their price, there are certain things to consider, including the player of the card, the year it was issued, and the condition of the card. Another thing that makes a card valuable is its rarity. This is because if a card is rare, there will be a smaller supply and a bigger demand. Although there are different things that make a card rare, here are some of the famous notable errors that have been made.

1990 Topps Frank Thomas No Name on Front (NNOF) Rookie

As the name indicates, this card has a picture of Frank Thomas on the front, without a name to identify him. This card is famous because it was a print error that was quickly corrected, meaning that there’s not many of these cards that can be found. It is estimated that there are only 250-500 of these cards that exist.

1909-1911 T206 Piedmont Sherry “Magie” (Misspelling)

The error in this card is that his name is Sherry Magee, but the card was misspelled to say “Magie”. A small amount of these error cards were printed, as the corrected version had a higher circulation than the error card. Aside from the misspelling, Magee is considered one of the best Phillies players during the Dead ball Era, which is another reason why this card is so valuable.

1969 Topps Mickey Mantle (Mantle in White Letters)

The normal version of this card has Mickey Mantle’s name featured in yellow letters. The error version that came afterwards showed his name in white letters. Since there were fewer copies of the error card, they are at higher demand.

These are just 3 examples of how small errors can make a card more valuable, but there are many variations. If you have a rare card with an error, there are sports card buyers in NJ that will be willing to pay more for it. If you’re ready to sell baseball cards, give us a call at American Legends.
