How to Preserve Your Autographed Baseball Cards

So, you’ve purchased your favorite baseball players card and you finally get the chance to meet them. You may have been waiting years for this moment; saving up money, buying tickets to the game, and maybe even choosing the perfect flight to make it to the game on time. With all the excitement, you have probably packed your favorite jersey to wear to the game and have the baseball card in hand. That’s all you need to prepare, right? You may be almost ready, but there are some things you can do to make sure that their signature stays on the baseball card without fading. Preparing for the Signature

There’s an important thing that you need to bring with you and that’s something to write with. Make sure that there’s ink in the pen and that the pen is from a good brand; otherwise, the ink may start to bleed or fade. Pigment-based inks, such as India ink and archival pen inks, are the preferred writing tool to use on baseball cards because they don’t fade. Typically the player will sign it on the front of the card, away from their face, so that the image isn’t disturbed.

Displaying the Card

After you get the signature, you’ll surely want to display your card. You should do so by putting your card in a protective ball cube or a display case. These cases are important, as they’ll maintain the condition of your card. You should also avoid displaying your card in bright light, which includes both visible and ultraviolet lights. This is because these lights can fade the color of your card, as well as the signature. You can avoid the light by hanging your cards on the same wall as your window, as long as it faces away from the window.

After you’ve hung up your baseball card with the proper preparations, you’re ready to admire your new card!
