Mark McGwire, 1985 Topps

In the late 90’s, this card soared to over $250, but it decreased in value for two reasons. First, baseball cards from the 1980s are massively overproduced. The second reason is that it came to light that McGwire wasn’t playing clean, making him a controversial player.

Johnny Manziel, 2014 Topps

Johnny Manziel made a name for himself in football in the 2010s. That’s why when his first official card was released, collectors hurried to purchase it. Unfortunately, Manziel has problems in his personal life which affected his career on the field. For that reason, his cards aren’t seen as long-term investments.

Jose Canseco, 1986 Donruss

At one point in time, Caseco’s rookie card was a wildly popular card to collect. Over time, his card was not only overproduced, but his career sputtered. Even more, drama on and off the field cooled collector’s interest. For these reasons, his this card is only worth around 20 dollars today.

Ben McDonald, 1990 Upper Deck

Since McDonald was the first overall draft pick in 1986, many people believed that he had a promising career, which encouraged them to spend a good chunk of money on this card. Unfortunately, he didn’t live up to his expectations, making his cards practically worthless.
